Norman island nightlife - dance, drink, have fun!
The infamous Willy T is known throughout the Islands as fun place to eat and a bar with a great party atmosphere once the sun goes down. William Thornton, the floating restaurant, began life a fair number of years ago as a Baltic trading vessel. Mick and Annie Gardner launched the restaurant in 1989, mooring their original wooden William Thornton in the Bight of Norman Island, as uninhabited then as it is today, but still a popular overnight anchorage for the yachting community. Many charterers will recall dining aboard the Willy T, sitting at the large common table, with their feet dangling into the holds below. Nearly 6 years ago, the wooden Baltic trader was replaced with the William Thornton we all know today, a steel 100 ft. schooner with substantially more room both in the galley and restaurant, but also the bar area. A replica of a 93' top-sail schooner has been converted to a bar- restaurant and anchored in the Bight. Affectionately called the "Willie T," (a/k/a the William Thornton II for the designer of the U.S. Capitol, a BVI native), it is a BVI tradition (the old Willie T is now a dive wreck--now you can jump off the roof in slow motion), known for its casual ambiance, patroling barracudas and wild carousing like the old-time pirates with belly shots on the bar (free drink coupon).
